AUSTIN — Houston attorney Jennifer Caughey was appointed Wednesday to the Houston-based First Court of Appeals that decides civil litigation appeals.
Caughey, of counsel to the Houston law firm Smyser, Kaplan & Veselka LLP, maintains a general civil litigation practice, representing plaintiffs and defendants in complex trial and appellate matters in both federal and state courts.
In announcing the appointment, Abbott said Caughey will serve through December 2018.
According to a bio page on her law firm’s website, her practice focuses on “business litigation and includes cases involving breach of contract, negligence, fraud, professional liability, administrative law, trademark infringement, tortious interference, insurance, health care litigation, and securities.”
She previously served as a litigation associate at Houston law firm of Baker Botts LLP and the Washington-based firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP.
A graduate of Princeton University with a law degree from Harvard University, Caughey completed appellate clerkships at the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. She is also a member of the Federalist Society.
