Astros prospect Bregman to begin season in Class AA

Alex Bregman, the No. 2 overall selection in June’s draft, will open his first full professional season Thursday with Class AA Corpus Christi. The highly touted Astros shortstop prospect finished last season with Class A Lancaster.

The Astros minor-league affiliates announced their rosters Tuesday afternoon with the various affiliates seasons beginning Thursday. Bregman is joined in Class AA by 20-year-old righthander Francis Martes, the organization’s top pitching prospect, who finished his 2015 with three starts for Corpus Christi. Outfield prospect Derek Fisher also starts with Corpus Christi.

First base prospect A.J. Reed, as expected, will begin in triple-A Fresno with a chance to debut in the majors this season. Colin Moran will man third base in Fresno.

Outfielders Kyle Tucker and Daz Cameron, the fifth and 37th overall picks in June’s draft, open their first full professional seasons with single-A Quad Cities.
