Siblings Nicholas Adair and Katie Adair Barnhart remember their paternal grandmother’s living room as a perfect place to linger after dinner was done. And it is that same comfortable, familial, unrushed ambiance the two hope to impart to Eloise Nichols Grill & Liquors, a new restaurant they are planning for open this summer at 2400 Mid Lane.

Adair and Barnhart, partners in Adair Kitchen which they opened in the Galleria neighborhood in 2012, decided to name their new project after their 92-year-old grandmother, described as a “no-nonsense, classic Texas beauty.”

Eloise Nichols Grill & Liquors, expected to open in August, is designed to be a neighborhood, every-night-of-the-week spot where you can find good food, cocktails and a welcoming ambiance.

The food program will no doubt be a highlight thanks to executive chef Joseph Stayshich, making a move from the Kitchen at Karbach Brewing (before that he was at Benjy’s in Rice Village). Working with the partners, Stayshich has created an American menu with Southern roots featuring the works of local farmers. Early word of the menu: house pickled and deviled eggs; avocado and crab salad with Texas caviar; fried green tomatoes with comeback sauce; catch of the day with charred lemon, local arugula and cornbread; beer-brined chicken with smoked potatoes, greens and sundried tomato sambal; and sweet tea-brined pork chop with creamed hominy and kale.

Eloise Nichols Grill & Liquors will come under the Adair Family Restaurants Groups (founded by Gary and Betsy Adair) that includes Skeeter’s Mesquite Grills, Los Tios Mexican Restaurants, and Adair Kitchen.

Expect the restaurant to be open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 pm.; and Saturday and Sunday brunch from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
