It was built as a film set…

Aside from another great memory of the late actor Robin Williams, the 1980 “Popeye” film left behind an elaborate town built exclusively for the movie.

The abandoned site, known now as “Popeye Village,” is located in the village of Mellieha, Malta. The Mediterranean landmark is now an amusement park that brings people from all over the world to experience the wonder of Popeye, the spinach-loving sailor.
